Now you are in Santa Fe. Whether it was your destination or because of all the wandering around you have done, you find yourself in the plaza. That's good. You are within walking distance of great food and drink from many, many places.

Let's start with one of our favorite stops. The Shed. It's in a tiny alley in a group of shops on Palace Avenue, a stones throw from the plaza. Don't worry about finding it. If you asked 10 people where it is, 9.5 would know.

Old? Yes, The Shed is old. Everything in Santa Fe is old. These are the original adobe structures. Hey. That's why people come to Santa Fe.

Now, back to The Shed. I am not going to tell you all that is on the menu. You can find that for yourself on their web site. But I will tell you how to really enjoy it.

Number one. If you are going to the Shed, be there at 11:00 AM. That's right in the morning. During the season, by 12 noon people are piling up like they are getting the last seat to indoor plumbing. Why is it like that with so many great places to eat and drink? I do not know. But it is. So, you have been warned.

When you go in and are taken past the welcome desk, you are either going to go to the right and seating in a large room or to the left and seating in some of adjacent room. Be careful. Don't bump your head on the low door headers. I said before, everything is old. Or, if you are lucky, you can sit at the bar. However, there are only 8 seats at the bar, so good luck.

Believe it or not, when we go to The Shed, more often than not we have our seats at the bar. I say our seats, because that is what it seems. When we walk in, there in front of us are 2 empty seats, usually the same seats. It almost seems like they belong to us and the bar people are telling everyone, "You can't sit there, those seats belong to Jack and January". Hmmmmm. Would be nice.

So! What's it going to be to drink? Well, you can have what you want, but we always have their margarita. They have different types. You pick yours, but we always have the Gran Gold, Don Julio Anejo, Gran Marnier. Why? Because 2 of them is plenty and 3 means you will need to find something to do for a couple of hours 'cause your not driving. Am I serious? Yes.

What are you going to eat? If you have been in New Mexico for more that 8 hours, you must have some idea about the food. I say keep trying different things. That's what I say, but I never do that. I have lived here for years, but I almost always order beef enchiladas. I am so boring. Some times I will venture off and get wild, but I really like enchiladas and the side dishes. But, anything you order at The Shed is going to be excellent. Also, be prepared. The chile sauce is HOT!

Speaking of HOT. Now for the best. If you have not had green chile stew, you are in for a treat and something to tell your friends about. The Shed green chile stew is, well it's really good. And it's really HOT. It is so good you will probably need that third margarita. You can get a cup or a bowl. Get the bowl! The first 3 spoons full will be murder, but after that it is so smooth. They give you a slice of warm and tasty garlic bread to add to the great flavors.

How do you finish off a great New Mexican dinner. We always have one of their great deserts, and usually it is their homemade Hot Fudge Sundae.

There you are. Done. Now you can drag yourself out to shop some more until you get hungry and thirsty. Then you can try another one of our recommendations. We will have lots more because we really like going out.

See you soon,

Jack
